Jenny Bean

It's a windy and not so sunny day here in Arizona, not a great day for taking photos.  But, I've finished and framed Jenny Bean from Scarlet Letter, and  here she is.  I stitched it on 40ct. vintage Black Forest from Lakeside Linen with plain old DMC.  It didn't kill me to use cotton thread, but it came close.  I don't know why I didn't use silk.  I guess I thought it would require a lot of it in the solid area.  I learned my lesson though and won't be using it again on any 40ct. linen.  It shreds too much, or maybe I pull too tight.  I love this sampler, and once my eyes adjusted to stitching on black, it wasn't so bad.  It's worth the effort because the colors just pop, but I'm looking forward to a much lighter linen.
We made a quick trip to Iowa last week for a wedding.  I took this project to work on.  I'm determined to I finish the Prairie Schooler alphabets over one on 30ct.  It's been a bout a year since I picked it up, and I'm all enthused about it again.

The ducks, Dave and Roseanne, are still hanging around.  Dave is here three times a day, but Roseanne must be sitting on a nest and doesn't come as often.  They were both sitting in the driveway when we got home from Iowa and walked right up to the car.  I think they missed their handouts.

On my last post, a comment was left asking about the designer of the stitched piece in my header.  Um, that would be me.  I am planning to use it on my chart packaging.  The house is an adaptation from an antique that I plan to reproduce.  Thanks for asking.

Beautiful! I've had my eye on that chart for some time but I always manage to leave it out of my Scarlet Letter orders for some reason, I guess it's because of the black linen but you've just given me the motivation I needed to order it. Your frame is an excellent choice and I love how you framed it right to the stitching on the bottom but not on the sides and top. Perfect!!

Oh my! Your Jenny B is stunning!! I would have thought DMC would be perfect on 40-count. I guess it makes sense that it would indeed shred, being cotton. Hmm..I do enjoy working with cotton now and again.
The design in your header also caught my attention. Love it! :)

Oh...I am so impressed! My "old" eyes struggle to see normal 30-count linen but you did 40-count on black...that is definitely something to be proud of! I have always loved Jenny Bean and you did an amazing job on her. Beautiful work!

Looooove Jenny B!!!!! Gorgeous frame too! Bummer about the DMC shredding so much. That's weird -- I haven't had that problem. I love how your Scarlet House piece is framed too -- was it framed before? lol! I could swear it wasn't. It's so great!

Hi Tanya, Congratulations on finishing the beautiful Jenny. She is really lovely and she does pop on the black doesn't she. I use DMC all of the time on my samplers and 99% of the time, I don't have any problems with it on the 40ct.
We seem to have only one duck left that comes to visit from across the road from me. I think that the foxes must have got him/her. God I hope the owner's didn't decide to have duck for dinner. That would be horrible. It's one thing if you don't know the duck, but another if you do. - Sandra.

Holy crap. BLACK 40 COUNT?!?!?
I would be seeing 6 little dogs instead of 3. Jenny's colors are stunning on that background though and it's a beauty.

I don't know how you stitch on 40 count black! My eyes would be cross all which ways. I have a hard time on 32 count with black. But with that said, your finish is stunning and those colors really do pop on the black!!

I've never had DMC shred on me on 40 count and I'm a tight stitcher. I have the opposite problem - silks shreds on me. Wonder what is up with that?

I LOVE, LOVE your Jenny Bean! You had ducks to come home to and I had a Robin's nest with 4 pretty blue eggs on top of the garden hose.

Just stunning, absolutely stunning. I love, love, love your finish. Having admired Jenny for a while on the SL website, when I saw you start her, I gave in and ordered. Now I have almost all the silks and need to get started! Usually DMC gives me no problems, but I indulged myself this time with the silk.
I just love your finish and will return to this post many times, I'm sure, for inspiration as I stitch Jenny :)

JB is beautiful. Laughing about cotton not killing you. I bought some cotton overdyed today and looked at it and thought (although the colors are perfect for what I'm stitching) "yeesh. cotton." We are silk snobs through and through, I guess. I like your PS ABC also--I think putting a project away is great for making it fresh again (which is why I have about 50 projects put away).

Your Jenny Bean is amazing. I use DMC on anything I stitch, just because it once got so much for free that I can stitch for 500 years without running out of floss. Thou I'm dying to try stitching with silk. I have heard so much good about it.
I love stitching on 40ct. linen, and I am stitching a lot lately on 25ct one over one, but I have never tried 1 over 1 on 30ct.
I'm excited to see more of your PS- Alphabet

Tanya, perfect frame for your Jenny Bean! It looks great.

I look forward to seeing the entire PS Alphabet over one on 30! That will be awesome.

Jenny Bean is BEAUTIFUL!! I love the frame you chose, too.

Good luck with your PS--it is such a wonderful piece but I think PSs are deceptive in terms of how much stitching is involved. The end result is worth every stitch, though. ;)

Jenny is glorious. I absolutely love her on the black. Glad to see your PS Alphabet out again too - it's probably a good change of pace.
