Resuming Country Life...Literally!

Once Jane Tindall was ready for market, I worked a little on Country Life again. It is such a cool sampler, but that border...Geesh! Getting one flower finished is a major accomplishment. I probably won't get too far along as I am also working on another model for Needle Work Press. Next up is Maria Tilley 1835. I finished the chart before our vacation to Iowa, but I wasn't able to stitch on her much. I am using 45ct linen, and it was too hard to see in the car.

Here are some photos from the trip. We took our bikes along, and this path was near the lake that my in-laws live on. I was riding as fast as I could because there were snakes...lots and lots of snakes. I saw at least thirteen. They were only Gartner snakes and most of them had been run over, but they were still SNAKES. And we all know that I hate snakes.

Loved checking out this huge tree...while keeping an eye out for snakes, of course.

This is the lake that my hubby grew up on.

I wish we had more of the blue skies, but unfortunately it was cool and rainy most of the time. I skipped the county fair because it was a nippy 41 degrees. How was I to eat fair food in the freezing rain? Paul went without me and probably ate enough junk for the both of us.

Henry, Ruby, and Scarlett are now sailing dogs. They took a ride in the pontoon boat.

Bad weather can't stopped me from antiquing. I hit every store that I could. My favorite find is this pewter canister or tea caddy. I'm using it to store my tea, so that's what we'll call it. I've wanted one for some time but the prices always stopped me. This one was a deal.

I always look for more canning jars for my craft room. This one came filled with buttons, so in the cart it went.

Naturally, I found a couple of crocks that needed a home.

On the way to Iowa, we made a stop in Colorado Springs so I could see my good friend, Katrina. It was so fun to meet up with her, and we had a great time talking, eating Mexican food and looking through each other's stitching bags.
Many thanks for the very sweet comments left on my last post about Jane. It meant the world.

Welcome back! I'm looking forward to stitching Jane, and now, MT! So many lovely things to stitch. Loved the pictures of the lake, but the snake thing--yikes. And I had to laugh at the thought of you and Katrina looking through each other's stitching bags! LOL!

Wonderful finds, Tanya. I defintely prefer my biking without snakes - yuck! But the lake and trail are just lovely. Can't wait to see the new piece you are creating.

Nice to see you, Tanya! Your Country Life is looking great. I can imagine how much time it takes to stitch it!

I like the photos of your trip, especially the photos of you on the bike and knowing that snakes were chasing you! ;-)

I like those things you bought. The jar of buttons look cute! Almost as cute as the dogs on the boat! Ahhh, what a good life they have!

Your Country Life is so gorgeous! I hope Maria is going well now that you're home. I enjoyed seeing the pics of your vacation. The pugs look so cute on the boat together!

Glad you are back! Country Life will be awesome when you finish. You found some real treasures on your trip. I don't like snakes dead or alive either and that tree was huge. Glad the dogs liked boating.

What a great gnarly old tree! I think going over dead snakes would be just as bad. Yikes! Sounds like a good trip. Nothing like good old deep-fried fair food. :)

Thanks for sharing your trip with us through your pictures. Very pretty country and interesting, too. And great finds while antiquing.

Your Country Life is beautiful. I do love the little pig and horse in the corner.

Good to see your Country Life Tanya, looks great.
Lovely pics of your holiday, and I would stay on the bike too:) snakes would give me the creeps, glad we don't have them in our field, although I will now not stray of the path lol.
You do have a knack for finding little treasures, lovely, especially the buttons :))

Sounds like you had some fun even though the weather did not entirely cooperate. We've seen quite a few snakes this summer right in our own yard! EEEUUUU - they always startle me no matter what kind they are. Your Jane Tindall is very nice - I missed commenting on your previous post. Can't wait to see the new one your are repro-ing and your country life is really shaping up now. Enjoy! Mel

Wherever you went, I don't want to go there! I live in absolute fear of reptiles........I would have been crying had I been you on that bike........I will not even stitch one. Hoping your next sampler doesn't have any either!

Hi Tanya, yes, you can keep your snakes. I have enough problems with my own that appear sometimes in the back yard. Mine are usually venomous though.
Glad to see Country Life back. It is a lovely sampler.
Maria Tilley 1835 is a really lovely sampler. I am looking forward to your progress on this one. Just wonder if the 1824 AS Sampler is also going to be done. That is another sampler that the both of us can get excited over. Sheep as well as cows - Sandra.

Love all the loot you came back with! What about snakes hanging in the trees? I couldn't have passed up a trip to the County Fair for some real good old midwestern fair food no matter how cold it was. It's just the best!

I, too, dislike snakes A LOT! Great finds you had in the stores...and your stitching is beautiful, as usual!
