Interrupting the Country Life

Country Life was put aside for a few days to work on Seek Joy in All Things from Stacy Nash Primitives. I wanted a pin keep to place in a Shaker tray that sits next to my stitching chair, and this was a quick and easy project. There were a couple of firsts involved. It was the first time I have used walnut crystals for aging the linen, and it was a first in using crushed walnut shells for the filling. I love both. The shells really give the keep a nice solid weight. I bought a bag of the stuff at PETCO, and when the cashier rang me up, he wanted to know what kind of reptile I had. Eeeeuuuwwww... I found that funny since I have such a strong aversion to anything that has a darting forked tongue and slithers. Since I now have a huge container of the stuff, I need to stitch up the other SN designs waiting in the wings

Isn't the sampler fabric wonderful? I have to say thank you again to two friends for sharing it with me. I think it matches perfectly.
Now back to life in the country...

I just love your finish Tanya! I received a pincushion too filled with the crushed walnut shells and I'm really sold on them now. They give such a nice weight to the piece. Can't wait to see more of Country Life!

Lovely Stacy Nash pin cushion. Love her designs. I also use the crushed walnut shells and find that things with them in are very tactile.
I also share your thoughts on things with forked tongues along with little things with long tails that scamper about. yuk. - Sandra.

Wonderful finish, love the added touches! I've had this kitted up for quite a while, I really should get it started :)

I had bought a bag of the crushed walnut shells and left it on the kitchen table...when my kids got home from school they thought we were getting a bird (because there's a big bird on the front of the bag and it's called "walnut litter".) They really thought I'd lost it when I told them it was for my cross stitch, LOL ;)

VERY cute, Tanya! That fabric turned out to be just perfect for your little pincushion. I'm glad you didn't let the guy's comment at Petco blow the whole deal. I mean every time you pick up your pincushion to admire it and feel those walnut shells, you're not going to think about creepy reptiles are you?? (I was going to tease you, but I better stop or I won't be able to use any walnut shells myself .... ewwwww!!) LOL

Fantastic finish, Tanya! It looks great. LOL at the reptile comment. I was looking for some walnut litter in pet shops around the area and it totally skeeved me to go anywhere near the tanks with lizards and snakes. I prefer my reptiles only in sampler form.

As I was reading, I was wondering where you get the crushed walnut shells - as I have a couple scissor fobs to finish finish, now that they are stitching finished...I will have to check out the local pet stores. My son probably even knows as he has a gecko and worked cleaning fish tanks a year or so ago at one of the local pet stores. Love the pin cushion - sweet finish. I am sure you will enjoy using it!
