1827 Mary Ann Selenah Mott Sampler

1827 Mary Ann Selenah Mott Sampler
Winter 2009 Sampler& Antique Needlework Quarterly
I just put the last stitch in Mary Ann, and then I had to rough her up a bit with some distressing. In my last post, I mentioned that it was brought to my attention that she would look good with my collection of salt-glazed pottery. I was asked by JoAnn what that is. It would be hard for me to describe, so here is an example. I've also been working on Ann Rayner. It's too gloomy here today for me to get a good photo, so I'll try to post again in a day or so. That Ann is one incredible sampler despite the pinhead people.
The last couple of weeks have been really busy. I have a part-time job doing accounting for a small dealership. I've had visions of W-2's, 10-99's, quarterly, and yearly taxes dancing in my head. I haven't had time to read many blogs lately, but now that taxes are done, I hope to get caught up. Hopefully, I can find time to do some painting on my needlework accessories, too.
I also want to comment on the fact that many of you left comments on my last post bordering on hostility and sarcasm because I was outside in short sleeves. Well, all I can say is after I had to endure several months of plus 100 temps, you should be ashamed of yourselves. In case you can't tell, I'm only teasing. I remember all too well what winters are like in other places. I hate the cold, so I feel for those of you dealing with it.
Take a look at these faces. A big change is coming on Saturday, and their world is about to be turned upside down. Ruby and Scarlett are getting a baby Boston brother. He doesn't have a name yet. It looks like they are saying "Brother smother, we're not happy one bit, and we're sticking together". I'm betting they'll change their minds...

A new little baby boy, congratulations! Have you picked out a name yet (Ruddy or Carmine - according to the thesaurus they are both substitutes for 'red')? Can't wait to see a picture of him. And aren't Ruby & Scarlett just so cute! What sweet, irrisistable faces they have.

Congrats on a wonderful finish! I look forward to Ann making an appearance soon.

Yeah, yeah, you poor thing in all that warm weather, what a rough life - heehee. Forecast in my little southern corner of the world - 10" of snow.

It's always a pleasure to visit with you - enjoy your weekend.

Lovely sampler of Mary Ann, gorgeous colours, the distressing finishes it of.

Look forward to seeing your new arrival, those two are adorable and they will be jealous LOL.

I can't believe you finished Mary Ann already. It seems like you just mentioned her and now she is ready for framing. She is a "must stitch" for me.

Thanks for the info re. Salt Glaze. Stupid me, I thought it was a glaze you sprayed on the linen. Thanks for educating me.

Your new little boy is precious. I know he will fill your home with lots of fun. JoAnn

Lovely sampler, and it does go nicely with salt-glazed pottery. Funny thing is, I've seen salt-glazed pottery all my life, but I now associate it with you. Every time I see a piece in one of our local antiques shops, I think, hmmm, I wonder if Tanya would like that one, and I wonder if it's too expensive. She'd know!

As for R&S, I can't wait to see little bro. Not that anyone asked me, but I'd name him Rojo. R&S say they're going to name him "twerp!"

Mary Ann is just stunning! Yes, she will go good with your salt glazed pottery! Now that I have seen her, I am closing my eyes so I don't get tempted to do it too! You and Margaret always lead me astray - stitching wise that is!

The girls look so cute and you are right, it does look like they are not happy about a new brother! They will learn to love him!

That is just so pretty!

Congratulations on the new baby. I did the same to my pug pack. The new puppy rocked their world for a while but now all are firm friends.

Your dogs area just too precious!! I can't wait to see the new addition to the family!!

Mary Ann is a beautiful sampler. I definitely think that it will look wonderful with the pottery! Your blog is always such an inspiration. I ordered Ann Rayner because I loved your progress on it, but still have yet to start it!

Yes I know the feeling with the W2's - I work for a management group (family owned) that has dealerships in 3 states - I'm glad that is behind me too!
I love Cari's name suggestion for the new bouncing baby boy - Carmine - there was a famous drummer "in my day" that was Carmine - we thought he was SOOO cool. Love Mary Ann - just lovely and I would like to hear how you distress your pieces also. Melody

Your Mary Ann is GORGEOUS!! I am so glad that I got this issue of SANQ--I keep thinking of your finish and the comment about saltware and it becomes a must stitch.
