1827 Harriet Burry Sampler

The A&E is still a half finished sampler, because I got sidetracked by this one, the 1827 Harriet Burry Sampler. It was in the summer 2008 Sampler & Antique Needlework Quarterly. I fell in love instantly when I saw her. The garden gate is kind of unusual. The original antique was stitched on 50ct. linen, over one and two, with some specialty stitches thrown in. I'm using 40ct. summer khaki that I over dyed to age it a bit. I really liked the original color of Harriet's linen, so this is close. My thread colors appear to be more vibrant, even though I converted the charted DMC to NPI. She must have loved green, as it is the most dominant color. I'm using a brown for the trees. I'm proud of myself for getting so much of the border done already. I usually put it off for last, and then regret it. Since she's a big piece, I'll do a little everyday as I go.
We are having glorious weather here in the Valley. I planted pansies yesterday. I feel for those of you who are getting your winter clothes out. No, not really...we had to suffer all summer to get to these days. All I want to do is sit on my patio, stitch, and listen to the birds. Unfortunately, I'm behind in painting, so it's nose to the grindstone for me.

Gorgeous!!! I don't even remember seeing this one in there. I'll have to go back and look. I love the feathery looking flowers in the border. They look like maybe they are shaded with grey? So pretty! And I love your fabric!

Hi Tanya, Remember me? I absolutely love this sampler! I am just getting back into this after 20 years and have to check out Stitchville USA in Minnetonka, MN. I know nothing about the silk threads, etc. I can't imagine stitching on 40 count. What an accomplishment this will be! Nancy in WI Brrrrrrrr

Hi, I was reading your blog enter and was also looking at some sampler pic's I have saved on computer. I have one that has a similar fence in front of a house. I would be happy to send you a copy of the picture if you would like. Please email me @ mrebec4@q.com if you are interested.

Tanya - what a beautiful piece. I love your linen and the colors stand out so well. Congrats on working on that dreaded border intermittently - it does make it seem less daunting, doesn't it?

I bet your pansies look beautiful - I need to plant some fall flowers, too.

Hope you get lots of painting done this weekend.

Tanya - what a lovely post. I always enjoy when people allow me a glimpse into their world. Work tables are supposed to be messy - it shows we are working hard :-) Speaking of which, I love your new set - what a fun piece for Easter.

Your dogs look so nice and comfy in 'their' chairs(love that red-checked fabric). My cat does the same, she loves to curl up close by while I work. Pets are such great company (even when they snore)

Harriet is coming along nicely - I like the specialty stitches and the colors are beautiful. I am going to have to locate this magazine!

Enjoy your weekend.

It looks amazing. And thank you for introducing me to SANQ. I'd not heard of it as it's not available in the UK. But I see that they do international subscriptions so I'm going to give Santa some very heavy hints!

I think I'm going to have to get the back issue that contains this though. It's just so very beautiful.
